A November to Remember

By the time December 1st rolled around, the Defiance College baseball team was finally able to dust off their razors - as they had left them untouched from October 31st through November 30th. In an effort to raise money for the Fort Defiance Humane Society, the DC Baseball Yellow Jackets attempted to raise awareness through growth. A No-Shave November Fundraiser was held, and it was certainly a success. DC Baseball's HuMANly Month Fundraiser collected forty-nine (49) different sponsors - all contributing to a total donation of $975!

Sophomore Catcher Brandon Riley, was voted the winner of the Best Beard Award - narrowly edging out Freshman Gary Levengood. OAOTD would like to thank all the sponsors who helped to make this past November a month not to be forgotten - but ultimately an enormous thank you goes out to all the participants, the Bearded Jackets! Thank you for your efforts gentlemen, may your beards go down in HuMANly Month History!

*For all you hockey fans, this was recently passed along to me by Eric Bunnell, Assistant Baseball Coach at Lake Erie College. Still growing your beard? Take a peak!

With only three days left to round out the month of November, men around the country are trying to decide if their efforts to lay down the razor have been a success or not. The Defiance College baseball team is no different - four members of the bearded Yellow Jackets have been nominated to take home the Best Beard Award. The winner of the Most HuMANly Beard will be voted on and decided by you! Nominees include FR Catcher Gary Levengood, FR Pitcher Dan Bauta, FR Outfielder Ben Weber and SO Catcher Brandon Riley. Growing Awareness

It's finally Ocotber, and we all know what that means - yes, October Baseball is here! As the DC Baseball team enters its last week of organized fall practice, its almost time to turn attention to an exciting off season! Not only will they be bettering themselves in the weight room and the classroom, but they'll be aiming to better their ever improving image in the community as well. How will they do that you ask?

Well, it goes by many names; Noshember, Movember, and Man Month - but its most common name is No Shave November. That's right; the Defiance College Baseball Team will be participating in the most "manly" challenge of them all. The DC Baseball Yellow Jackets will go thirty (30) days with no razors touching their bearded perfection, in order to raise money for a more than noble cause.

The first annual DC Baseball HuMANly Month Fundraiser will directly benefit the Fort Defiance Humane Society, all money raised will go toward the care of ill and injured animals that enter the facility, the control of the stray pet population through the Society's spay/neuter program, and to various other monetary items (i.e. food, toys, flea products, etc.).

During the off-season and throughout the month of October, each DC Baseball player will be spreading the word about their newest fundraiser, and also attempting to find sponsors. Each Niner is responsible for obtaining at least one sponsor for their beard, sponsors can choose to donate a set ($) amount per day (ex. $1.00 per day) that the player remains unshaven. On October 31st, aka Shave Day, pledge sheets will be submitted - and on November 1st, beard growing will commence!

The purpose of this fundraiser is to raise as much awareness as possible for the city's Humane Society. We're hoping to make our first ever HuMANly Month Fundraiser, a November to Remember! For additional details on contest rules or if you'd like to sponsor a participant - contact Cameron Castro, Assistant Baseball Coach via email: ccastro@defiance.edu.
