About

Cam Castro, a native of Northeast Ohio, is in his fourth season as the assistant baseball coach and recruiting coordinator at Defiance College (Defiance, OH). In 2013, the Yellow Jackets recorded one of their best seasons in recent memory. Notching their first playoff berth since 2004, and most wins since 1995. The 2013 campaign also set the mark for the third most wins in program history.

Castro works with the Yellow Jacket pitching staff, since taking over, his pitchers have posted single season lows in ERA, batting average against and WHIP [since 2008]. He also oversaw the breaking of both the school's single season and career saves record by senior Alex Schomaeker. Defiance has had eleven All-HCAC selections in Castro's tenure with the team.

Prior to coming to Defiance, Castro was a pitching instructor at the IMG Baseball Academy in Bradenton, Florida. And also spent time with Notre Dame Cathedral-Latin HS (Chardon, OH) and a summer with the Ontario Blue Jays, one of the top amateur baseball programs in Canada.

In the summer of 2014, Castro served as the first base and bench coach for the Lakeshore Chinooks of the Northwoods League. Where he was a part of a regular season South Division title as well as a 2014 Northwoods Leage Championship. The 2014 Chinooks are one of only three teams in NWL history to win 50+ games, and finished the summer ranked as the top summer collegiate baseball team by Perfect Game.

A graduate of Lake Erie College and former member of the Storm's baseball team - Castro recorded
the school's first Division II win against Mars Hill University on March 4th, 2009. That year he led the team in appearances, saves and games finished and also tied for the team lead in wins. That performance earned him the second most single season saves and appearances in Lake Erie history. Castro was also apart of two teams that broke the school record for wins while with the Storm, both in 2010 and 2011.

Castro has a Bachelor's Degree in Legal Studies from Lake Erie and an MBA in Sports Management from Defiance College. To date, he has coached two players that have gone on to sign professional contracts. Castro has been a member of the American Baseball Coaches Association since 2012 and currently resides in Defiance, Ohio.
